Dialectical Behaviour Therapy Training

Dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) is a comprehensive treatment approach for chronically suicidal clients. However, in the last decade DBT has received empirical support to treat other populations including eating disorders, addiction, anger problems and other mood disorders. Additionally, it has been adapted for adolescent mental health populations, inpatient, residential and forensic settings. DBT clients are taught more skillful ways to regulate their emotions, effectively manage the distressing situations in their lives, and improve and maintain relationships with the people around them. These skills are taught within a caring treatment relationship that accepts the client for who and where they are, while maintaining a movement towards creating “a life worth living”.

The comprehensive training is the starting point for mental health providers or organizations looking to learn how to deliver DBT within their practice. The training will focus on the core pillars of DBT and provide the essential tools needed to provide comprehensive DBT treatment (adherent individual sessions, skills training groups, phone coaching and participation on a DBT consultation team). This training may be beneficial for both experienced and novice clinicians alike.

DBT Skills training will focus on the specific skills taught within the adolescent and adult model across the five modules (mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, walking the middle path).  It will also address the stylistic and structural strategies needed to implement and deliver and effective DBT skills group.

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy

CBT is a structured, time-limited, problem-focused and goal oriented form of psychotherapy. CBT focuses on the here-and-now and helps people learn to identify, question and change how their thoughts, attitudes and beliefs relate to the emotional and behavioural reactions that cause them difficulty.  CBT is the most widely researched and tested intervention to date and has demonstrated efficacy in treating a wide variety of mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression, mood disorders, eating disorders, psychosis and trauma.  A Foundational and Advanced CBT training is offered to support clinicians in learning CBT in a structured and step-wise manner.
